Deadly Nutmeg

Image
Did you know nutmeg is a hallucinogenic drug? Eating just 0.2 ounces of it can leave you convulsing and eating 0.3 ounces will lead to hallucinations. Eating a whole one will leave you in a state of “nutmeg psychosis” and with the sense of an impeding doom. There have been two recorded deaths by nutmeg in history: the first was in 1908 and the second was as recently as 2001. Inhaling or ingesting nutmeg in high doses can cause marijuanalike high. There is a long list of bad nutmeg high symptoms which include: Hallucinations Palpitations Nausea Dry mouth Fever Abdominal spasms Convulsions Dizziness Vomiting Dehydration Body pain Irritation of the skin Constipation Insomnia Lack of energy and mortor skills Lack of speaking skills / Social withdraw Contains safrole, a carcinogen that is bad for the liver.

What does the Bible say about ghosts / hauntings

Question: "What does the Bible say about ghosts / hauntings?" Answer: Is there such a thing as ghosts? The answer to this question depends on what precisely is meant by the term “ghosts.” If the term means “spirit beings,” the answer is a qualified “yes.” If the term means “spirits of people who have died,” the answer is “no.” The Bible makes it abundantly clear that there are spirit beings, both good and evil. But the Bible negates the idea that the spirits of deceased human beings can remain on earth and “haunt” the living. Hebrews 9:27 declares, “Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” That is what happens to a person’s soul-spirit after death—judgment. The result of this judgment is heaven for the believer (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23) and hell for the unbeliever (Matthew 25:46; Luke 16:22-24). There is no in-between. There is no possibility of remaining on earth in spirit form as a “ghost.” If there are such

Potatos & Nutmeg

Image
Add nutmeg – just a little – it adds a depth to the potatoes that people won’t recognize, but will definitely like. This is true of virtually every potato dish.

Cook your Tomatos WITH the green stuff!

Image
Throw in a tomato branch – the branch contains all of the flavor that we love in tomatoes – pick a leaf and smell it and you will see what I mean. Simply throw in a small stick of the tomato plant and it will give your cooked tomatoes a much stronger tomato flavor.

Tastier Stews!

Image
When stewing meat, throw in a star anise – you can’t taste the aniseed but the flavor adds a deep richness to the meat. This is a trick used in all meat dishes by Heston Blumenthal the owner of the Fat Duck (3 Michelin stars) – voted the world’s best restaurant for three years in a row. I would suggest finding a recipe for the first time you use this trick just so you have the right amount of everything and don't end up ruining an entire pot of deliciousness ^_^    Star anise- A star-shaped, dark brown pod that contains a pea-size seed in each of its eight segments. Native to China, star anise comes from a small evergreen tree. It's flavor is slightly more bitter than that of regular anise seed. Asian cooks use star anise to give a licorice flavor to savory dishes, particularly those with pork and poultry. It's available whole or ground and is an ingredient in Chinese five-spice powder. Use it sparingly--a little goes a long way. Available year-round (and

Crooked Forest

Image
So here is a destination I came across a little while ago that I definitely wouldn't mind going to see one day when I begin my world travels :) The Crooked Forest is a grove of oddly shaped pine trees located outside the village of Nowe Czarnowo, in western Poland. The forest contains about 400 pine trees that grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks. All of the trees are bent northward and surrounded by a larger forest of straight-growing pine trees. The crooked trees were planted around 1930 when the area was inside the German province of Pomerania. It is thought that the trees were formed with a human tool, but the method and motive for creating the grove is not currently known. It appears that the trees were allowed to grow for seven to ten years before being held down and warped by a device. The exact reason why the Germans would want to make crooked trees is unknown, but many people have speculated that they were going to be harvested for

So I whipped up a batch of the Country Apple Dumplings that I wrote about in my Extra Dessert post (haven't read it? Click on the link to check it out^_^). And they turned out fabulously!! They're even better the second day when the bread has time to soak up more of the sauce. The apples were perfectly soft and the cinnamon and sugar crunch on top was just what it needed. The next time I will definitely sprinkle a little cinnamon on the apples before rolling them in the crust just for that real apple pie taste. Add a bowl of French Vanilla and I give it 20 Stars!!

One World Trade Center

Watch One World Trade Center Rise from the Ashes in Earth Cam’s 9/11 Commemorative Time-Lapse   Though construction officially began in early 2006, it wasn't until a few years later that One World Trade Center — formerly the Freedom Tower — began to take its rightful place in New York City's iconic skyline. Using footage captured between February 2010 and September of this year, EarthCam has compiled a commemorative time-lapse video of 1 WTC's ascent in honor of 9/11's 11th anniversary. Currently the tallest building in New York, 1 WTC will be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere (and third tallest in the world) upon its completion late next year. The Freshest Bread

Image
Cracking the twist-tie code for freshest bread Have you noticed those little twist ties on your bread loaf?  Take a moment to look at the colored twist tie? Most of the bread you'll find on U.S. supermarket shelves arrives housed in plastic wrappers closed by colored twist tags or plastic tabs. The tabs serve a purpose besides aiding in keeping the bread -- their colors provide a quick visual reference to the people whose job it is to recycle the stock by removing older loaves while loading the shelves with fresh product. Fresh bread is delivered to retail outlets on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Why are bread deliveries not made on most Wednesdays? Most commercial bakeries utilize Wednesdays for “emergency only” deliveries; customer care calls and as a day off for their drivers as they also have Saturday deliveries to make. That means most bakery drivers have a “split” weekend with Wednesdays and Sundays off. Each day’s delivery has a differ

Does God Answer Prayer?

Image
Question: "Is there evidence that God answers prayer?" Answer: Countless stories could be cited of diseases cured, exams passed, repentance and forgiveness granted, relationships restored, hungry children fed, bills paid and lives and souls saved through the efficacy of prayer. So, yes, there is plenty of evidence that God answers prayer. Most of the evidence is anecdotal and personal, however, and that bothers many who think of “evidence” only as that which is observable, measureable, and reproducible. Scripture clearly teaches that prayers are answered. James 5:16 states that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Jesus taught His disciples that “if you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7). First John 3:22 echoes this truth, saying that we “receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.” Scripture, moreover, is replete with sto

Leaving for the Moon

Image

Neil Armstrong

First man on the moon, passed away at 82 (CBS News) Neil Armstrong, the Apollo 11 astronaut who became the first human being to set foot on another world, has died. He was 82. In a statement his family said Armstrong had passed away following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures. The family described him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and also as "a reluctant American hero who always believed he was just doing his job." That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind. When Armstrong set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969, he fulfilled the goal that had been set by President John F. Kennedy just eight years earlier. -Video Courtesy Of Cbsnews.com-

So who wouldn't want to be able to own an entire town? lol...Today on yahoo I happened across the article below that allows you to do just that...or rather shows you the towns available for purchase. And if you're a hunger games fan you'll loovvee this lol...Read On... Towns for Sale Buy Your Way to “Mayor” By Colleen Kane | CNBC  –  Mon, Aug 13, 2012 3:44 PM EDT News items pop up regularly about entire towns and villages going up for sale. In April, Buford, Wyo., sold to a Vietnamese buyer for $900,000. The same month, a couple bought the tiny town of Wauconda, Wash., for $360,000. In May, the French “ghost village” of Courbefy sold to an American photographer for about $643,000. Why buy a whole town? Many buyers see business potential, seeking to transform an abandoned burg into a tourist destination. One man used his July purchase of the town of Bankersmith to put his brand on the map of central Texas. He changed the name to Bikinis, after his “
