MY SITE IS OPEN WWW.SHOPSNAG.COM
WOW! This has all happened so fast!
Ok, first let me get you all caught up!
After I got my license, (see previous posts) I got to work immediately. Having that piece of paper in my hand made me truly realize how close I was to my goal! There is really a ton of stuff involved in running ones own business. First, I had to decide exactly what I was going to sell. This changed as I looked at different vendors and what they had to offer. I was a little nervous about venturing into the clothing side of things simply because so many things can go wrong. Sizing, color, fit, etc. I felt (and still do) that clothing can be a trap for customer returns and complaints. Granted, I'm not one of those people. If I receive the wrong color, size, etc I'll email the company politely and that's all. I don't return things or make a fuss. I think the hassle of returning items isn't worth it. But that's just me. Granted, I don't make expensive purchases online. If it's something I need for an event or special occasion or it's over a certain amount I'm going to a store. Period. Anyway, I decided on a few pieces that have give to them, stretch materials and t shirts. That way the customer has a little room for sizing. Let's hope that works.
Next, I had to decide how I was going to stock my site. After spending a month pouring over potential vendors I settled on a couple. I didn't want to choose too many and cause confusion or more work for myself and I also wanted to be able to guarantee consistency for my customers. This proved to be an extremely time consuming task. No one wants to give up their vendors, especially if they have a good one, and google has thousands upon thousands of leads. I'll have to do a completely different post just to cover that. Also, I'm still looking but I'm satisfied with what I have so far.
So, inventory, check. Vendors, check. Next, the website! I adore design in any ares, whether it be fashion, home, whatever. (I play The Sims for hours and all I do the whole time is build and decorate homes and create characters). So this part was so so so much fun for me and Shopify.com made it a breeze. I was able to use their services and go step by step through the process of creating my site. Everything can be customized so I was able to get exactly what I wanted for my site.
When designing my site I kept in mind the things I do and do not like when shopping online. I have been an online shopper for years and years and I love the feeling I get when I open my front door and there's a package!!! I also love the great deals I can find online that aren't usually in stores. A few big things for me is store lay-out, bargains, and ease of use as far as website navigation and checkout is concerned. With those things in mind I was able to created a simple, clean, clutter free site. What I mean by that is there aren't a million pop ups (eww) and there aren't 70 million pages to go through. It's edited down to just the best I can offer.
On to advertising! I launched a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/shopsnag), Twitter (https://twitter.com/shopsnag) and IG (https://www.instagram.com/shopsnag/). I was so happy to find that shopsnag hadn't been taken on any of these platforms!! So far I've been working on organically growing my pages versus just buying likes and followers. ALOT of work is required for this, especially since I've never been a twitter person and now I'm trying to run my business through it. I also created an Ebay shop and submitted my web address to Google and Bing. Another avenue I used was to create a Google Ads account, although it is a tad pricey Google is an invaluable tool for online websites. Please go like my social media accounts!
This was just a very brief overview of the process. I will post more in depth articles on everything I touched on here and more as I continue to grow my company.
